PROJECT A-KO — VHS COLLECTION (4 VOLUMES)

Bright colors, big hair, bigger explosions.

Project A-Ko is pure mid-to-late-80s anime excess, the kind that lived on VHS shelves throughout the 90s because it didn’t fit neatly anywhere else. It’s comedy, action, sci-fi, and mecha all smashed together at full volume, with jokes that land just as hard as the punches.

These tapes are loud, fast, and unapologetically cartoonish — the kind of anime you discovered because the cover art was wild and the runtime promised chaos. Nothing here takes itself too seriously, but the animation and energy absolutely deliver.

The Volumes

Project A-Ko

The Original

The one that started it all.

A mysterious super-strong schoolgirl, her equally stubborn best friend, rival classmates, giant robots, space pirates, and an entire city caught in the middle. What begins as a high-school rivalry escalates into full-scale sci-fi destruction in minutes.

This film sets the tone:
big action, ridiculous stakes, and zero interest in slowing down.

Project A-Ko 2

The Sequel That Turns Everything Up

More characters. More factions. More chaos.

Project A-Ko 2 leans harder into sci-fi parody, bringing in space politics, idol culture, and even bigger set pieces. It feels like a sequel made by people who were told “do more” and happily did exactly that.

Messier, louder, and very much a product of the era.

Project A-Ko 4: Final

Loose, Meta, and Completely Unbothered

Despite the title, this one doesn’t feel like an ending — it feels like a victory lap.

Final plays fast and loose with continuity, leans into meta humor, and fully embraces the idea that Project A-Ko is allowed to be ridiculous. Characters feel freer, jokes come quicker, and the whole thing feels like late-80s OVA confidence at its peak.

Project A-Ko Versus Battle 1: Grey Side

Bonus Chaos / Side Story Energy

A character-focused spin-off that exists purely because VHS made that kind of thing possible.

Shorter, scrappier, and very “extra,” Grey Side feels like a bonus tape you’d find behind the counter or tucked into a different section. It’s fun, fast, and very much a product of the OVA boom.

Perfect for:

  • Late-night viewing

  • Group watches

  • Anyone nostalgic for OVAs that felt fun first
